Cato

Obituary

Theresia  Rosella (Rose) Hills, 95, of Cato passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born in Schenectady, NY, daughter of the late Andrew Miner and Teresa Siebold Miner.  She grew up in North Creek, NY and attended St. Rose College in Albany, NY. Rose started her 37-year teaching career upon college graduation as a high school teacher at Long Lake Central School. She taught in Arizona
and California before settling in at Cato-Meridian Central School where she taught business skills classes – typing, shorthand, and secretarial practice – for 22 years. During her tenure, Rose made a lasting impact on countless students, equipping them with the latest office technology and secretarial skills to help them succeed after high school. In addition, she fostered essential life skills by leading and supporting a variety
of extracurricular activities. Rose was an inspiring role model as both a mother and a teacher successfully balancing the demands of raising a family and having a career during the 1950s and 60s – an era when that was far from the norm. She was also an active member of St.
Patrick's Catholic Church for 59 years. Rose enjoyed downhill skiing, playing bridge, shopping, and was the consummate hostess where she welcomed everyone into her home.

She is survived by her children Brenda Halliday, Diane Townsend (Bradley) Susan Pierce (Dennis), Paula Hills (Patty), Jeffrey Hills (Robin), Gregory Hills (Heather), brother Albert Miner, sister Andrea Waldron, 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  She is predeceased by her husband, Richard Hills; siblings, John Miner and Mathilda Troisi; son-in-law Thomas Halliday, and daughter-in-
law Gretchen Hills.
