Roberta Jean Meddaugh
FAIR HAVEN, NY - After a courageous battle with ALS, Roberta Jean (Moell) Meddaugh, 68, passed away on Friday, Oct. 28, in her home in Fair Haven, NY, surrounded by loved ones.
Roberta was born on Oct. 6, 1948, the first of five children to Robert and Mildred (Benzing) Moell. She spent her childhood in Dayton, Ohio, and moved to Endwell, NY in 1962.
She graduated from Maine-Endwell High School, and received her BA in Mathematics from SUNY Oswego. On June 28, 1969, Roberta married her first love, Arlen Meddaugh, and two years later, they moved to their current home on Lake Street in Fair Haven. There, Roberta and Arlen raised their family of three children: Eric, Kyle, and Tara.
Led by her Christian faith, Roberta was a committed volunteer to the community. She was an active member of the Fair Haven Community Church, teaching Sunday School for decades, and serving in numerous other capacities over the years, including Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer, and Church Elder. She served on the Women's Association and the Board of Trustees of the Fair Haven Public Library. She also volunteered at the elementary school in Red Creek and a daycare in Oswego when her children were young. Her birthday and anniversary card ministry touched hundreds of lives each year.
Roberta enjoyed sewing, baking, jigsaw puzzles, board games, daily walks, geocaching, Star Trek, amusement parks, computers, and anything chocolate. Roberta was a gentle, faithful and uplifting soul, living by example and not judgment. She practiced unconditional love and servitude, and even through her last days, she continued to approach life with a smile on her face and joy in her heart.
Roberta is predeceased by her father, Robert, and her brother, Joseph.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Arlen Meddaugh; sons, Eric (Kate) Meddaugh and Kyle (Marnie) Meddaugh; daughter Tara (Michael) Bouteneff; mother Mildred Moell; brothers Donald (Anne) Moell and David Moell; sister Nancy (Peter) Duchessi; grandchildren Fisher, Kaia, Dylan, Luke, and Lewis; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
