Robert L.
Monroe
Jul 14, 1945 — Apr 15, 2022
Wolcott
Robert L. Monroe, 76, of Wolcott, passed away Friday, April 15, 2022, at Rochester General Hospital.
Just like he faced all experiences in life, Bob managed his ongoing battle with kidney disease with
strength and grace due to the amazing partnership and deep love he shared with his wife, Lucia, of 55
years. He fought long and hard wanting to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. During
his final journey, he was surrounded by "his girls" (Lucia, Nancy, Tori and Triniti), who he adored more
than anything else in the world.
Robert was born in Erie, PA, son of the late Leon and Dorothy (Hedderick) Monroe. He completed his
bachelor's degree in mathematics at SUNY Brockport in 1966 and married his best friend and life-long
partner Lucia. Together they raised two children who brought more joy into their world with four
grandchildren starting in 1996, and then great grandchildren in 2021. Family has always been the
center of Bob's world and he devoted his life to bringing joy to everyone he touched.
Robert was a mathematics teacher at the Red Creek Central School District for 39 years. He also
coached wrestling at Red Creek and girl's tennis at the North Rose-Wolcott High School. Bob always
loved to help people whether it was teaching or tutoring them in math, coaching them in wrestling or
tennis, or helping to fix/remodel something at church or in someone's home. However, most
importantly he taught people how to "have fun" whether they were fixing something, learning
something new, or competing at a sport. In addition, he truly embraced life and left behind a lot of fond
memories of camping, hiking, playing games, exploring historical sights and family heritage, volunteering
at the church, and bringing laughter to family gatherings. He will truly be missed.
Robert is survived by his wife Lucia Years Monroe; daughter, Nancy (Teddy) Boykin of California; son,
Tod (Susan) Monroe of Baldwinsville; sister, Betty (Edward) Buttaccio of Newark; grandchildren, Tori
(Daniel) Boykin-Kevorkian and Triniti Boykin, Frances and John Monroe; great grandchildren, Haysley
and Kason Kevorkian, as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.
