Obituary

Peter Douglas Jackson passed away on Friday October 15 th , 2021  suddenly & unexpectedly at home. He was born, at home, in Shanty Town, Piney View, West Virginia on January 12 th , 1940 where he & his siblings grew up in extreme poverty through no fault of his parents. Peter was a dedicated 54-year union member of Laborers Local 435 in Rochester, N.Y. & as such he worked on many construction projects in Rochester, N.Y. & the surrounding area such as the Can of Worms, the Tunnels, et. al. He always was the last worker to leave the projects.

Whether sick or well Peter worked hard & along with his wife, Dona, they provided their family with a comfortable middle-class lifestyle which he was proud of. When Peter was laid off, he would gather junk & fish & hunt to augment the family income. At the time of his death X-rays confirmed Peter had a hard head. Throughout his 81-year life this was proven many times. He could be as stubborn as a Missouri mule. Peter proved this by adamantly refusing to see doctors.

Peter had big & kind heart for children, animals, his family & friends. He loved living out in the country & it always excited him to see all the animals & their offspring on his property. When he was sitting outside the squirrels & ferrydiddles ( chipmunks ) would eat peanuts out of his hands. Peter also allowed Dona's mother to live with them for 24 years & they had a great relationship. His kindness also extended to all the feral cats that were inhumanely dropped off. Beside feeding them he, also, built them shelters. Finally, there was a wild, motherless baby deer ( Bucky ) that adopted Peter & until Bucky's death he grew up, lived on his property & traveled throughout the neighborhood. Many people driving past Peter's house would almost wreck their vehicles when they saw  ( Bucky ) laying down on his porch. Bucky loved eating peanut butter cookies

Peter also took great pride in keeping his property pristine along with his garden. He especially enjoyed giving away some of his produce.

Peter was predeceased by his Mother Mary Gardner Jackson who was a dedicated wife & mother, his Father Pete Jackson who was a coal miner & his siblings brothers Carlos Roscoe Jackson, Dallas Ray Jackson, William Dale Jackson, Tommie Lee Jackson & sister Regina McQuillen.

He is survived by his wife Dona J. Jackson, , son Scott D. Jackson, grandson Steven ( Kelly ) Jackson, daughter Judie ( Vincent ) Sampson (whereabouts unknown ), daughter Mary Ann ( Edward ) Bolen, grandchildren Miranda ( Tim ), Adam, Brittany, Edward Junior & Connor. Peter also has several great-grandchildren & many wonderful longtime friends.

As a result of the limitations of Covid-19 & Peter's wishes his funeral & burial will be a New York & West Virginia family oriented only. Peter will be buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in West Virginia. A memorial service will occur in the future. Any & all contributions in Peter's name can be made to St. Jude's Hospital. Peter's family is thanking & blessing all those who have supported & comforted them during this most difficult time.
