Obituary

Kathryn C. Wallace

On Sunday, August 13, 2023, Kathryn C. Wallace passed away at the age of 74 after years of battling a long illness. Her passions in life consisted of three things: dedication to her career as a registered nurse, her family, and her love of animals.

Kathryn was born on January 6, 1949, to Harold and Carol Wallace. She was the oldest of five children. Kathryn grew up in Fair Haven, NY and after college moved to Syracuse, NY.  In the 70s, Kathryn moved to California, where she joined a heart/lung transplant team spearheaded by Dr. Norman Shumway at Stanford University Medical Center. After many years, she returned to New York to be closer to family, and she had a fulfilling career working in the ICU in the Central New York Hospitals. When Kathryn wasn't at work, she could be found with family. Kathryn had a passion for making her nieces and nephews laugh and never missed an opportunity. She dressed up for birthday parties and as Santa during Christmas bringing smiles to all.

Kathryn had such a love for family, fine food, football, and animals.  She enjoyed taking trips with her sisters to Toronto and New York City. Kathryn loved to host, and loved having her sisters visit for coffee when she moved back to the Red Creek area around 2015. Any time in life, you could find one to five dogs by her side.  As she battled illness in her later years it was her dogs that inspired her to stay independent and never give up.

Kathryn is pre-deceased by her parents Harold and Carol Wallace and her brother-in-law Gary L. Cooper.  She is survived by her sisters, Janet Cooper and Elizabeth McCormick (John), and brothers, Greg Wallace (Terese) and Robert Wallace (Theresa), and brother-in-law Michael McCormick.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

The family would like to express our thanks to Hospice of the Finger Lakes, and the staff at the DeMay Living Center Shultz Unit located in Newark, NY who provided such loving passionate care during her residency. Also, a special thank you to her cousin Cindy Porter and family friend Patty Scott who dedicated hours of their time and love to be by her side during her end-of-life Journey.

A private graveside service will be held at Springbrook Cemetery, Sterling, NY.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in Kathryn's name, to the Lollipop Farm, 99 Victor Road Fairport, NY 14450 or the Oswego City Animal Shelter, 621 E Seneca St, Oswego, NY 13126.

Arrangements are in the care of the Becker-Keysor Funeral Home, Red Creek, New York.
