Obituary

Kathleen J. (Murphy) Jolly, 79, formerly of Cato, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023. She
was born in Syracuse, daughter of the late James A. Murphy, and Arlene (Richmond) Murphy.
At a young age, Kathleen worked in her brother John's pharmacy, which led to a long side career
as a pharmacy technician (both full and part-time) throughout her life. Kathleen enjoyed beach
time, spending many summer weekends on Fair Haven beach. Her doors were always open to
any stray and not just animals; if you were down on your luck you had a place to stay. She was
one of the organizers of the Murphy family reunions, which was a major feat in of itself. What
started out as a dare with her grandson, Kevin, she dyed her hair bright red. He heckled her
relentlessly, and so it became her signature trade mark until her death. She leaves her family with
many funny memories as she was one-of-a-kind. Kathleen became a lay minister late in life and
assisted in several services and weddings. Mostly, Kathleen loved spending time with her
grandchildren, often staying with them while family traveled. Prior to retirement, she was
employed by Onondaga County as a social services clerk.
She is predeceased by her parents, James and Arlene Murphy, sister, Mary E. (Murphy) Togias,
brothers; James A. Murphy Jr., and John D. Murphy.
Survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (Stephen) Rood; and sons, Terry L. Jolly and Scott J. Jolly,
brothers; Patrick (Kathleen) Murphy and Thomas J. Murphy, as well as four grandchildren and a
great granddaughter.
A graveside service and burial will take place Saturday, April 22, 10:30 AM, at the Ira Union (White) Cemetery.
Arrangements are in care of the Keysor-Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, Cato. For those wishing to
make contributions in Kathleen's name they may do so to any local SPCA.
