John Frederick
Cole
Feb 6, 1953 — Jun 24, 2026
Cato
John Frederick Cole, age 73, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026. Though John was a quiet and deeply private man, those fortunate enough to know him knew a warm, dedicated, and honorable soul.
Born in Fulton, New York, on February 6, 1953, John was the cherished son of the late Frederick and Marilyn Cole of Meridian, NY. Following his passion for service, he earned his Associate degree in Law Enforcement from Auburn Community College and subsequently enlisted in the United States Air Force. John went on to serve a long and distinguished 21-year career in military law enforcement before retiring and returning home to Central New York. He then began a second successful career with the United States Postal Service in Syracuse, retiring after 20 dedicated years.
Throughout his military career, John, Connie, and their two daughters lived in many different places, making wonderful memories and lifelong friends across the world. During their retirement in Cato, New York, John and Connie cherished their newfound freedom—traveling to Florida, enjoying life, and watching their beautiful family grow.
John was the beloved husband of Connie Cole, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, building a beautiful life and legacy. He was the devoted father of Jennifer Picchi (Steven) and Melanie Seay.
He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Steven Picchi (Kristina), Dominic Picchi (Rebecka), Joseph Picchi (Karintha), Kyle Picchi, Adrian Picchi, Rachel Seay, Kaelyn Seay. He was also the doting great-grandfather of Cienna Picchi, Justyce and Joey Mclean, and Antonio and Carmella Picchi and great-great grandfather to Naomi.
John is survived by his older brother, Paul (Kathy) Cole, and his sister, Christine, as well as many nieces and nephews who absolutely adored him. He also leaves behind his spirited Bengal cat, Weasel, whose funny, affectionate bond brought much love and joy to his daily life. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Peter.
John was an inspiration to all around him, and his presence will be profoundly missed. He will continue to live on always in the hearts and souls of those who loved him.
In accordance with John's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private burial and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John's memory to the Matthew House of Auburn to support their compassionate care: Matthew House, Inc. 43 Metcalf Drive Auburn, NY 13021.
Arrangements are in care of the Keysor-Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, Cato.
