Obituary

John "Jeff" Pierce, 72, of Weedsport, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024. He was born in Oswego, son of the late John Pierce and the late Ruth (Pilling) Pierce.

He graduated from Cato-Meridian School with honors in 1972. While in High School he enjoyed varsity wrestling and attended 2 years of BOCES to learn small engine repair and marine engine mechanics. He worked hard while raising his children, still finding time to take them on trips or teaching them to fix cars. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing cards with friends. He collected antique engines and tractors and loved YouTube shows about them. He was a talented mechanic and carpenter and could fix just about anything. In retirement he spent many hours on Otter Lake, fishing, and enjoying glorious sunsets with his wife.

Over the years he used his strong mechanical skills and work ethic as he proudly worked at Cato-Meridian School, Miller Brewery and McQuay before retiring from the Weedsport Department of Public Works. Jeff was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Betsy, and father to their children and extended family.

He is predeceased by his wife of 27 years, Elizabeth "Betsy" Pierce who passed May of 2024, son, Kevin Pierce, brother, Mark Taro, sister, Sandy Barry, parents, John and Ruth Pierce.

Survived by his daughters, Jodie Pierce, Terry Kent (Gary Kent), Tina Watkins (Jim Fulks), his son, John Pierce, his brothers Guy Taro (Mary Lou Taro) and Robert Pierce (Steve Subera), his sisters, Gail Wiltse (Mel Wiltse), and Carol Beachle (Alan Baechle), longtime friends, Mike Calkins and Carol Perkins. He also leaves behind several nieces related by blood, marriage, and those he adopted through love, as well as his beloved kitties, Mr. Twitch, Hallie, and Critter.

There are no calling hours or services, for those wishing to make contributions in Jeff's name they may do so to the American Cancer Society. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Keysor-Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, Cato, is in care of the arrangements.
