Jason A. Wood
February 7, 1976 - April 25, 2021
Jason A. Wood ("Woody"), 45, of Baldwinsville, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021 surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer.
Jason was a loving and selfless husband, father, and son.
Jason was a 1994 graduate of Red Creek Junior-Senior High School, where he shined as an athlete. His athletic talents were only outdone by his work as the self -proclaimed "speaking captain" to the referees and umpires.
Jason met his wife, Kirsten, in 2000. Together, they built a beautiful life. Jason and Kirsten married in 2009. They welcomed their son, Landon, in 2015. Jason was so blessed with the support of Kirsten throughout every idea and plan he came up with over the years. Jason often referred to Kirsten as "his angel" as she cared for him tirelessly around the clock, without even the slightest hesitation. Their unconditional love has been, and will continue to be an example to all who witnessed it.
Landon was the joy of Jason's life. He taught him how to throw a ball and shoot baskets like the lead scorer he is destined to be. Jason beamed with pride whenever he spoke of Landon. He was so proud to be his father, and loved watching him learn and grow.
Jason cared deeply for his extended family and enjoyed quality time with them. He was often the one to organize gatherings with siblings and cousins. Jason also had a special bond with a close group of friends, who were like family. He was an avid and skilled poker player, participating in several tournaments.
Jason was an all around good man, who consistently showed up with love and generosity. He was the first person to jump at any chance to help those in need, and loved to buy gifts for those he cared for.
When Jason was diagnosed with cancer, he brought his competitive, tenacious spirit, battling with such belief and positivity. Despite his own suffering, he made it a point to spend time praying for others, and encouraging family and friends. Even on his worst days, he still often sent Kirsten special gifts for occasions, and flowers "just because." His selfless strength and mindset were an inspiration.
Jason will be missed beyond measure, but he has left us with memories that will be cherished forever. The world is a better place because "Woody" was here.
Jason is survived by his wife, Kirsten; son, Landon; parents Patti & Scott Gregg, Claude & Delene Wood; parents-in-law Scott & Wendy Jones; grandmothers Barbara Dauphin, Anna Lavada Yancey; sisters Jill Wood, Jamie (Paul) Hicks, Rachel (Kreig) Heroth, Tonia (David) Smith, Aimee (Paul) Reed; sister-in-law Stephanie (Todd) Wafer; nephews and nieces Bret, Parker, Elijah, Karlee, Hunter, Hayden, Harlan, Ashton, Morgan, Dustin, Joseph, Brendon, and Olivia; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; close friends, Burgess Malcott, Sean Kaiser, Dave Bauso, and Derek DeMass.
