Janet S. Stothard Muckey, 66, of Fair Haven, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026. After a short hard battle with ALS.
Born in Auburn, Janet was the daughter of the late Maynard Stothard and Dorothy Johnson Stothard.
Janet was a truly special person who will be deeply missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known and loved her. She had a wonderful love for flowers and was an exceptional cook who found great joy in preparing food for the people she cared about. She also had a special love for Halloween and all that came with it—a holiday that perfectly suited her fun and spirited personality.
Janet shared 24 wonderful years with her loving lifetime partner, Robert “Buck” Hornburg, who stood beside her through life’s many moments and shared a life filled with love.
She is survived by her sister and best friend Vickie Younglove; her nieces and nephews, Laura, Kim, and Peter; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews who loved her dearly.
Janet also leaves behind two very important members of her family, her beloved cats, Dougie and Melmo. They weren’t simply her pets—they were her children, and a very special part of her life and heart.
Janet was predeceased by her husband, Bob Muckey, her sister Jean Golcheski and brother-in-law Wayne Younglove as well as her parents.
Those who knew Janet will remember her not simply for the things she loved, but for the person she was—the crazy memories she created, the love she gave, and the special place she held in the lives of her family and friends. Her presence will be deeply missed, and she will never be forgotten. A celebration of Janet’s life will be held, Sunday, October 25, 1:00-5:00 at the Red Creek Conservation Club, 6924 Waters Road, Red Creek, NY 13143. Arrangements are in the care of Becker-Keysor Funeral Home, Red Creek. www.catoredcreek.com
