Edwin G.
Nesbitt, Jr.
Feb 19, 1943 — Jan 5, 2024
Cato
Edwin G. Nesbitt Jr., 80, of Cato, New York, passed away on January 5, 2024, with family by his side.
Born on February 19, 1943, Ed was the son of Edwin G. Nesbitt Sr. and Gertrude (Potter) Nesbitt. He was a graduate of the Cato-Meridian Class of 1961 and was an original member of the S.O.B. there. He served his country with pride from 1961 to 1967 in the US Navy aboard the USS Witek. He was a loyal member of the IBEW Local 43, often operating as foreman. He worked on many hospitals, power plants and landmarks such as the Carrier Dome, Destiny USA, Turning Stone and Budweiser. After retiring as an electrician, Ed worked and played part time at Walt's Hobby in Syracuse with family and friends. Ed also oversaw the Town of Cato Trash Service for several years.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 60 years, Diane (Polak) Nesbitt, his children, Edwin G. Nesbitt III (Deborah Cammarata), Laurie (Michael) Lees, Terri Nesbitt and Scott Nesbitt, 12 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. His surviving siblings are Jean (Barbara) Biser-Fish, Joan (Rich) Garrison, Frederick (Avis) Nesbitt, Jane (Roger) Gadsby and Theodore (Barb) Nesbitt. He was also blessed with many in-laws, whom he considered to be his brothers, sisters and great friends. He is predeceased by his parents Edwin and Gertude Nesbitt Sr. and infant sister, Janet.
Edwin held many titles in life, from Little League coach, Plainville UCC member to volunteer fireman at the Meridian VFD. His favorite role, however, was that of loving husband, father and grandfather. He adored his wife, Diane, and cherished the family they built together. He loved nothing more than spending time with them. He was always there for them lending a helping hand and cheering them on in their endeavors. He endlessly extended his love and helpfulness to countless family, friends, and strangers in his life. He was always ready to share a new (or old) joke and a detailed, captivating story, sure to bring a smile to your face. He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
