Donald Holmes, Sr., 80, of Cato, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018. He was born September 06, 1937 at the farm where he spent his entire life and passed peacefully surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Joseph Holmes and Flora Cummins Holmes. He attended Cato Meridian Central Schools and graduated in 1955. He was an employee at Auburn and Butler Correctional Facilities prior to his retirement; and he was a self employed farmer at the homestead in Cato. He enjoyed attending his children's, grandchildren's and great grandchildren's activities, camping at River Forest and Duck Lake, tractor pulls, tinkering in his shop and making pancakes for the kids.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Reynolds Holmes, two daughters, Julie (Skip) Crowell of Baldwinsville and Lisa (Mike) Lloyd of Cato, two sons, Donald Jr. (Beverly) Holmes of Cato, and Kent (Annette) Holmes of Kentucky. He was "Grandpa Putt Putt" to his twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Donald is predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
Calling hours will be 1:00-3:00 with a service to follow at 3:00,at the Keysor-Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, Cato, burial will follow at the Cato Union Cemetery.
