Obituary

Cheryl René (Gunnip) Stryker, 70, died peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on January 30, 2026, after a well fought 9-year battle with cancer.

She was born in Syracuse, NY on September 10, 1955, to Barbara and Robert Gunnip. She was the first of seven children and loved her brothers and sister. She attended Cicero High School and later attended SUNY Geneseo. She worked at Saint Paul Insurance Company in Syracuse where she met her husband, William Stryker. They were married on June 20, 1981, and had seven daughters together. Her daughters were her pride and joy, and her joy only increased as she enjoyed each of her 29 grandchildren.

She was a member of Brunstad Christian Church and loved Jesus, her personal Savior and Friend.  She thrived when she was surrounded by her friends that shared her faith in Jesus. She was an incredibly creative woman and could often be found sewing in her craft room. She had the gift of listening and was empathetic and created many personal connections with her friends, young and old. She had a unique sense of humor and learned throughout her life to make the best of all that came her way.

She is predeceased by her mother, father, and brother, William. She is survived by her husband, William Stryker; her daughters Kathleen (m. David Laing), Rebecca (m. David Owens), Susan (m. Thomas Bråthen), Claire (m. Sverre Risa), Janet (m. Joseph Oommen), Ellen (m. Phillip Evangelisti), and Audrey (m. Brett Cinnamon); 29 grandchildren; her siblings, Robert, Andrew, Joseph, Della, and Casey.
