Red Creek

Obituary

Cheryl A. Southwick, 75, of Duck Lake Road, Red Creek, passed away Monday, July 29,2024, at her home with her family by her side. Born on May 16, 1949, in Sodus, NY, she was the daughter of the late Bernard & Helen (Toor) Craine. Cheryl was predeceased by her brother William "Bill" Craine of Red Creek.

Cheryl graduated from Red Creek Jr. Sr. High School in 1967 and then attended SUNY Oswego where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Paul Southwick, on June 28, 1969. Together, they raised four sons, who brought extreme joy and pride to Cheryl's life. Cheryl was employed as a 2nd Grade Teacher for Sodus Central School until her retirement. She was known throughout Wayne County as being an extremely dedicated and talented master teacher – teaching numerous English Language Learners and other non-readers how to read and write. Her hobbies included baking, gardening, woodworking, and painting, and she was quite humble when people marveled at her talent. Cheryl was also an avid reader. During the summer months, Cheryl and Paul would spend much of their time at their family cottage on Craine Bay in Westport, Ontario, Canada.

Cheryl leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Paul Southwick, their four sons, daughters-in-law, and eight cherished grandchildren. Matthew (Traci, Grace & Madelynn) of Tupper Lake, NY; Gregory (Wendi, Nicholas, Patrick, & Natalie) of Canton, MI; Nathan (Melissa & Jess) of Fairfield, VT; Mark (Angel, David & Rose) of Red Creek, NY; sister, Marica (George) Mingle of Cape Vincent, NY;
sister-in-law Nancy (late William) Craine of Auburn, NY; and many nieces and nephews. Cheryl relished the time spent with her family, cherishing every moment of laughter and togetherness as they created lasting memories.
