Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Arlene Grace (Warren) Sears of Conquest, NY announce her passing at the age of 96 on November 29, 2024, at The Commons on St. Anthony in Auburn, NY.

Arlene was the daughter of Robert Benjamin Warren Sr. and Bessie Margurite (Phillips) Warren and was born on January 18, 1928, in Ira, NY. As a child, Arlene lived in Brewerton and Central Square, NY. Arlene graduated from Cato-Meridian High School in Cato, NY with a love of history. Arlene married Raymond Hatch Sears Jr. on April 6, 1946, in the Victory Parsonage in Victory, NY. The new couple purchased their home in Weedsport, NY in 1946. Arlene was a caring mother to her six children, but she also had a variety of jobs throughout her life to assist the household such as a legal secretary, factory worker, waitress, nurse's aide, and cashier. Shortly after Arlene's father died in 1950, she invited her mother into her home. Arlene would continue to care for her mother until her passing in 1993. Arlene also shared the interest of Little League Baseball and Babe Ruth Baseball with her husband. While Ray was a coach, she would keep score and help maintain the baseball field. She recalled sitting in the dugouts watching baseball for over a period of 20 years. The boys that participated in Little League and Babe Ruth looked up to Ray and Arlene almost as if they were their parents. Arlene attended the First Baptist Church in Weedsport, NY and also maintained the church. In 1988, Ray and Arlene relocated to Conquest, NY. Arlene continued to live in Conquest, NY after her husband died in 1998. Arlene was fiercely independent until approximately a month ago. She gave generously to causes she cared about such as animal shelters and veteran organizations.

Arlene is survived by her six children: James Sears and his wife, Stephanie (Kutzke) Sears, Linda (Sears) Pierce and her husband, Donald Pierce, Terry Sears and his wife, Cynthia (Kappesser) Sears, Janice (Sears) Bizzari, Brian Sears and his wife, Susan (Ganey) Sears, Donald Sears and Stephen Roberts; her 18 grandchildren; and her 22 great-grandchildren.

Arlene is predeceased by her husband, Raymond Sears Jr., her daughter-in-law, Bonnie (Whyte) Sears, her son-in-law, James Bizzari, and her two siblings, Robert Warren Jr. and his wife, Mary (Lennon) Warren, and Marjorie (Warren) Turnbull and her husband, Richard Turnbull.
