Obituary

Angelo "Ange" G. Palermo
RED CREEK – Angelo G. Palermo, 81, passed away peacefully at home January 31, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving wife of fifty nine years, Carol, his children, and grandchildren.
Ange was born June 1st, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Cologero 'Charlie' and Theresa (Ricotta) Palermo. At the age of 12 he moved with his family to Rochester, NY where he attended high school at Edison Technical High School and excelled at wrestling and mechanical arts. After graduation, Ange went on to study printing at Rochester Institute of Technology, a renowned industrial arts college. After college, Mr. Palermo married his sweetheart, Carol Reynolds, joined the Army National Guard, and began working for the Goss Company as an international offset press installer and troubleshooter. Together the couple moved to Chicago. Il. and spent the next five years traveling throughout Europe, Africa, and South America, many times installing the first newspaper presses in the country. Looking to settle closer to their Rochester roots, Ange and Carol purchased the Community Newspapers in 1965 located in Red Creek, NY, from Howard Hosmer. They then started their own printing company, Wayuga Community Newspapers, Inc. At that time, the company published the Red Creek Herald, Fair Haven Register, Cayuga Chief Chronicle, and the Cato Citizen. Angelo developed and published The Shopper, as well as building a commercial printing operation for the production of newspapers throughout the region. During his years in Red Creek, Mr. Palermo served as a Village Trustee, Mayor, was an original member of the Wayne County Water and Sewer Authority, began the Wayuga Recreational Program, was a Red Creek Rotary Member and President; and a long-time member of the Wolcott Elks Lodge.
Angelo will be fondly remembered by the community to which he gave so much. He was well respected and loved by many friends. The storytelling, laughter, advice and love he shared so freely with others will always be cherished in memories of him. He was truly one of a kind and someone that will forever hold a place in our hearts.
Angelo was predeceased by his parents, Cologero and Theresa Palermo, his sisters, Rose Brimacomb and Lena Yawan, and one nephew, John Yawman. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Reynolds) Palermo; children Christopher M. (Jaycelle) Palermo of Sterling, NY, Charles A. Palermo (Michael Bettis) of Red Creek, NY, Dana M.
