Alfred David Gauger, Meridian, NY, died on Monday, April 10, 2017. Al was born in Conquest, NY, to Karl and Alice (Boyd) Gauger on October 9, 1929, the fifth of seven children. He graduated from CM where he played football, was active in FFA and fell in love with Barbara Jean Southard. They married on August 25, 1950, and had three children: Michael (Ellen) Gauger of TX, Debra (Gregory) Wilson of OH, and Alicia (Noah) Wheeler of Meridian, NY. Al retired from Crucible Steel after 38 years and was known for his beautiful flower gardens, being a proud 50+ year volunteer with the Meridian Fire Department, playing a great game of golf in his senior years, and traveling to Florida each Winter where he and Barb were thrilled to have a second home. Al was a devoted Grandfather to five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. After 64 years of marriage, Barb passed on May 18, 2015, and Al has been anxiously waiting to be reunited with her. He cherished his family and was a loyal Brother, a favorite Uncle, a beloved Grandfather and a wonderful, treasured Father who will be dearly missed and never forgotten. Family and friends are invited to share a story, a laugh, and a tear or two as we celebrate Al's life on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Fireman's Memorial Park Pavilion in Meridian from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
